Ancient Rome Walking Tour in Augmented Reality

Looking for a one-of-a-kind experience in Rome? Step into the past with our Immersive Augmented Reality Walking Tour, where virtual reconstructions meet real-world locations. Using Meta Quest 3 smart glasses, you’ll walk through the Circus Maximus, stand in front of the Colosseum, and discover the Imperial Forums, all reconstructed in stunning 3D. Interact with historical characters and uncover Rome’s rich past like never before.

Step into Ancient Rome: where history meets immersive technology

Picture yourself in the heart of Ancient Rome. You’re standing in front of the ruins… and suddenly, they come alive: chariots race through the Circus Maximus, crowds cheer from the stands, the Colosseum rises in its original glory, and a historical guide speaks directly to you. This isn’t a dream — it’s Immersive Augmented Reality.

This one-of-a-kind experience lets you physically walk through real archaeological sites, while precise 3D digital reconstructions are seamlessly overlaid on your surroundings through your headset. You’re not just watching history — you’re inside it.

A holographic narrator, inspired by real historical figures, accompanies you from site to site, telling stories, guiding your journey and bringing Ancient Rome back to life. You’ll be able to interact with monuments and animated characters, trigger historical content with simple hand gestures, and explore the ancient world in a completely new way.

Powered by the latest generation of Meta Quest 3 headsets, the experience ensures smooth tracking, intuitive interaction and total immersion.

How the Ancient Rome Walking Tour in Augmented Reality works

Upon arrival, our team will welcome you and assist you with wearing the augmented reality headset. After a short introduction, your immersive journey through Ancient Rome begins.

  • Circus Maximus
Your journey begins at the ancient site of Circus Maximus, where you’ll meet our staff and receive your augmented reality headset. After a quick briefing, you’ll put on the device and step into another time: the 2nd century AD. As the ruins fade away, the stands rise around you, crowds fill the arena, and chariots race along the central track. Through the headset, you’ll be guided by a virtual narrator who will bring to life the spaces, rituals and characters that once animated this grand stadium. You’ll be free to move within a designated area, using simple hand gestures to interact with virtual elements and trigger stories and visuals from the past.
  • Colosseum
As you reach the Colosseum, the square surrounding the amphitheatre will transform. Putting your headset back on, you’ll witness the Colosseum restored to its original magnificence, standing in front of you as it once did, clad in marble. Around you, other landmarks will also reappear — from the towering statue of Nero to temples, fountains, and arches. Your virtual guide will explain how the amphitheatre was built and used, while animated figures from ancient times offer their own perspectives. You’ll be able to walk within a safe perimeter and explore different viewpoints around the site.
  • Imperial Forums
The last part of the experience takes place along the Imperial Forums. As you walk through one of the most important archaeological corridors of the ancient city, you’ll see the ruins rebuilt before your eyes. The forums of Caesar, Augustus, Nerva, and Trajan are reconstructed in accurate 3D. At the end of the route, you’ll take off the headset and return to the present, having completed a truly unforgettable journey through time.
